Dealing with Appetite Loss
While loss of appetite is common with a mesothelioma diagnosis, and especially during portions of your treatment plan, it is suggested to continue to fuel your body whether continuing with the traditional 3 meals a day or transitioning to smaller portion meals throughout the day. Interested in ways to increase your appetite, we, along with other medical professionals, suggest:
- Drinking enough liquids.
- Eating high calorie, high protein foods, such as milkshakes, bean soup, fish, peanut butter, chicken, nuts, and yogurt.
- Eating with plastic utensils if food tastes like metal.
- Taking a short walk each day.
- Trying new foods.
Medical professionals have also stated that watching TV or socializing with family and friends while eating may help you eat more. If you eat enough healthy foods, you will keep your body strong, which may help during treatments for your mesothelioma. If you have specific questions or concerns, contact our advocacy team today. Our professionals will listen to your specific needs and provide guidance and resources to accommodate your specific situation.
